Tips for Caregiving
According to an AARP national caregiver study, 44.4 million adults provide care for loved ones or friends. While caring for others, it is important to keep in mind that you must care for yourself. More than half the caregivers surveyed experience stress and strain in their caregiving responsibilities.
Taking care of yourself includes:
- Eating right. Prepare nutritional meals. Don’t overindulge in sweets or alcohol.
- Get adequate sleep.
- Exercise regularly.
- Ask for help.
- Maintain your social network.

For many caregivers, there comes a time when caring for a loved one at home is no longer feasible. Staff at all PSLG communities will help you and your loved one determine an appropriate living arrangement in a community that will be home. It will become home with all the positive connotations of the word “home”. That means a comfortable environment; friendly, caring faces and helping hands; good food; engaging activities and outings; laughter and joy; and a place where family and friends are always welcome.
